A Tale of Two Bourbons: Kentucky + Virginia

Do I like bourbon?  Nope.

But I appreciate the time that goes into making it and the intricacies of its flavor.

This week, the Kentucky Bourbon Festival kicked off.  I've never been, but I bet it's a fun time...for people who like bourbon.  My husband's a huge fan.  For a while, we thought that the only place that bourbon comes from is Kentucky, but that's not the case; there's a bourbon distillery less than three minutes from our apartment.

We've visited several times.  The A. Smith Bowman Distillery offers tours every hour, on the hour, as well as a complimentary tasting.

People don't usually take the time to start bourbon distilleries because the bourbon must age a minimum of five years; that means no product (income) for five years.

There you have it, folks!  That's your bourbon lesson for today.

When I bake, I often get Bowman Bourbon.  They have different varieties: single barrel, small batch, seasonal flavors, etc.  I like it because it's supporting a local business and supporting someone's dream.

In celebration of bourbon and the Kentucky Festival, I'm posting some of my favorite bourbon recipes!
